Decision Decision

Where in the bible does it say that we have to marry a believer?

I don’t know the statistics. What I know is that I know 4 different friends who once went to church with me. They are all girls. One by one they paired up with a non-Christian partner. Everyone of them have moved away from God. None of them goes to church anymore. Is the main aim of life to find happiness in a partner?

What is your ultimate goal?

If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,…” (Mark 9:43-47 NIV)

If anything should come between you and heaven you know what to do.

Jot's Question-If God speaks to you, will you only listen to the words you want to hear?

No, but it is HARD to follow ALL the things in the bible. (um..then I am answering in a yes way..lol). The world is full of uncertainties. Sometimes people claimed that they are devoted Christian, are they? I know a couple, two Christians, when they were in Oz, they went to Church, but after going back to HK, they stopped. It is a matter of FAITH!!

Also the 4 female friends of yours. Seriously, you cant just blame the guys, just coz they are non-Christian, I think the girls should take part of the blame as well. Shouldnt they encourage their bf to go to church with them? It just shows that their faith in God were not strong in the first place. However, will you say they are worse than b4? Well, for not going to church, yes, but as a person/friend, I dont think so!

Maybe I am weird, I dont mind a believer, but I want him to be a devoted Christian when he is with me. It is a form of respect for me I guess.

I think you misunderstood me. I didn't intend to blame the guys. What is the difference between a devoted christian and a normal christian? Why is it weird to go out with a believer? How is your boyfriend going to church twice a week showing respect for you? What is the point of going to church? Does going to church more make you more of a christian?

Dear Jot,

I had a similar conversation with my friend on msn last night. He asked me about devoted christian, he asked me so reading a bible weekly/daily and going to church make you a devoted Christian, is that true?

How can I say..I am NOT aganist anyone going out with a believer or non-Christian. Devoted Christian vs normal Christian, I asked a friend of mine..think 1/2 a yr ago and his answer to me was "You shouldnt judge on someone's faith". The one who is allowed to judge is God. Not us!

The main reason I am not against people going out with believer is because of the "people". Just like society, we have laws to regulate and keep peace. However, we still have crimes, coz some minority doesnt follow the rules. Same with Christians, a lot of them claimed that they are Christians, but do everyone of them follow what the bible says? The answer is NO.

Marriage is another thing, if my bf is willing to go to church, this means he is accepting God and it would be better for two to walk the path towards God rather than just one. We will have the same perspective on marriage --> Less fights --> less likely to get a divorce!

Going to church won't make you more of a Christian and read the bible wont make you more of a Chirstian either. However, it will HELP. You will understand the true meaning of the God's word. Thats why we need to go to church and read the bible!

I agree with you.
Going to church doesn't make you a Christian;
Reading the bible doesn't make you a Christian; and
Being DEVOTED doesn't make you a Christian.

And I agree with you again.
Faith in Christ Alone makes you a Christian.

Sorry, but I don't know you. But here is a verse that may help!
2 Corinthians 6:14
Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
