Self-Centredness

In a world that is competitive and selfish, people do things their own way without having a slight consideration for others. They do it either to protect themselves from the side effects of unhealthy competition; or they just try to maximise their wealth and satisfy their desires at all costs. So why has the world become so selfish?

Self-centredness. Everyone wants it their own way. They want what is best for themselves.

This reminds me of what was said in a sermons one time. Life is like a circle. All circles have a centre. That is what self-centred is all about: the more you focus on putting yourself in the centre of that circle, the more self-centred you become.

But being a Christian is entirely different. It is about putting Christ first in your life before satisfying your own desires. It is about letting go of yourself, vacating the centre of your circle, and placing Jesus Christ in the centre of your life so that whatever you do, you do it in the name of Christ (Colossians 3:17). It is not our will that will be done, but God's will be done (Luke 22:42)

I thank the Lord that a friend of mine has finally opened herself to listen to God's word. Through these recent months, she has changed from one who was completely reluctant to even talk about religion, to one where she is willing to find out more about God.

But wanting to know more about God is not enough. Accepting Christ and letting go of yourself is what makes you into a Christian. It may sound hard to understand, so consider the following example:

"I am not going to let myself to get upset ... again"

What happened to Christ? He got left out of the picture with the person remaining full control. Wouldn't it be much better, in the same situation, to entrust our lives in Christ and say:

"I trust that Christ will make me strong and guide me through so I will not be upset again"

Their are times where things are just beyond our control. Have you let go of yourself and invited Christ into the centre of your life yet?

"Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke and put it on you, and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit; and you will find rest. For the yoke I will give you is easy, and the load I will put on you is light." (Matthew 11:28-30)
