gods

After Church on Sunday, I went to Flemington for lunch. Usually, after eating, I would stand around and wait for my mother as she goes and buys stuff at the shops. Today there was a woman handing out leaflets about some persecuted people in China.

She spoke in Mandarin. I understood about 20% haha. Then she found out that I operated better in Cantonese so we continued in Cantonese.

Actually, her job was to tell me about the persecution, but I managed to drag her off the topic. I had nothing better to do then to wait for people so I asked her if she had a religious belief. She said something. I didn't really understand. Partly because of my limited familiarity with Chinese beliefs and partly because her Cantonese was not too fluent.

She said something about Fa Lun(?) stuff I think. I don't know what it was called but I gathered that she believes in some sort of god? I told her that I was a Christian, and that I believed in God. She was happy to hear that. She said that it is good to have a faith. Good to believe in something. I disagreed with her and asked her if it was good to believe in the wrong thing.

I told her about the God that I believed in. She was happy and said that she believed that there are many gods and they are all in existence together. Amongst the gods was the Christian God. Then I told her that God said that there is no other gods, and that he was the only God. She thought that I didn’t know what I was talking about and told me a story about a boy. She said that there was a boy who learned music. His music teacher was really good at music, and the boy thought that he was the best. The woman then explained to me that the little boy was wrong, and that just because he knew only one good teacher, it did not mean that there were no other teachers that were could be better. She went on to tell me that my god was not at the top and that there was bound to be some god greater than mine.

I told her that the God that I believed in was that God at the top. That top God she was talking about was the God that I believed in. She said I didn’t understand.

Good use of opportunities Jot!
Very proud of you

Jot,

You bumped into someone from Falun Gong, a cult that has a leader who believes he is Jesus' equal and that he has just as much authority and reverence as Jesus Christ.

This cult is actually one that somehow operates in an odd manner and the followers are usually seen practising some "chi" in parks and other places.

The persecution came because of politics and mainly because they are seen to be a public nuisance in China. Unlike the persecution of Christians, I feel that their cult is an enigma. Be careful of what they preach, as their teachings do have a few issues that Christians would find conflicting.

As for her urgings of a higher God, what can we say but that our God is THE God. No compromise there...

YBIC,
Brian
